Ebony Lodge

A return to nature

Ebony Luxury Lodge & Safari

Sabi Sand, South Africa

Singita's Founding Lodge

The birthplace of an enduring vision, Ebony has evolved to represent a growing legacy, rooted in a deep reverence for nature. The original soul of the lodge remains, now with an even closer connection to its setting, reinforcing the natural beauty surrounding it.

Suspended wooden walkways and shaded decks observe the ebb and flow of life along the Sand River, linking past and present.

The Rhythm of Fluid Spaces

The main lodge has been opened up to create a greater sense of flow and access to views of the Sand River and beyond. While the existing chunky, rounded Adobe architecture (inspired by West and North Africa) remains – it is now beautifully combined with lightweight canvas and timber, giving a modern take on the classic safari lodge look and feel.

Allowing natural light and the greenery of the gardens and bushveld to play a starring role has been intentional, giving Ebony a sense of spaciousness and freedom.

Conservation in Partnership with Communities

Singita Lowveld Trust (SLT) is Singita’s non-profit conservation and community development partner in South Africa.

Our biodiversity projects focus on maintaining healthy, well-functioning ecosystems and habitats in the reserves in which Singita operates. These ecosystems are vital for the protection of a diverse range of wildlife, including species of conservation concern, such as rhinos, leopards, lions, wild dogs and vultures.

As we strive for the restoration and regeneration of our rich wilderness landscape, we can’t do this without the support and in collaboration of our communities. Together we're committed to ensuring that people living alongside wilderness areas not only benefit from tourism and conservation jobs but also experience lasting socio-economic growth.

"This is where it all started back in 1993 when Ebony Lodge opened its doors. This iconic lodge stands tall among enormous trees on the banks of the Sand River in the heart of South Africa’s big-cat country."
